Driving Route from Bangalore to Ooty
Bangalore – Mysore – Ooty
This is the shortest route and I would prefer to drive during day time. It is approximately 272 KM from Jeevan Bima Nagar, Bangalore to my home in Ooty. I prefer to drive to Ooty through the following way.
From Jeevan Bima Nagar – Electronic City – Nice Road (will pay toll upto Kanakapura Road) – Kanakapura – Mysuru – Gundlupete – Bandipur – Masinagudi – Ooty
Kanakapura road is a double road and it will have lesser traffic when compared to the Mysuru highway. It will be a pleasant drive to Mysuru. In a few places, greeneries can be seen on either side of the road. And there are decent shops for tea and snacks too.
When I reach the outskirts of Mysuru, I have to take a deviation at BANNUR Ring Road Junction (landmark is the Vidya Vikas College of Nursing Mysuru). This deviation will help me to reach Nanjangud and from there to Gundlupete. The road between the two places will be very good with no deviations and with a beautiful long view. I enjoy driving in this route. I can find a few small hotels in Gundlupete to refresh.
Next step is to cross the Bandipur check post that will be closed at 9 pm daily. It will remain open from 6 am. From here, I can reach Ooty through two ways, Bandipur – Mudumalai Forest – Masinagudi – Ooty or Bandipur – Mudumalai Forest – Gudalur – Ooty. From Mudumalai Forest to Ooty, I will need to cross two check posts. First one is the Mudumalai Forest and Masinagudi check post that will be closed at 9 pm. The other one is the Ooty Kalhatti Falls check post that will be closed at 10 pm everyday. If I cross these checkposts, I can reach Ooty hassle-free. There is no check post in the other route, Mudumalai Forest – Gudalur – Ooty. If I cross the Bandipur check post before 9 pm, I can reach Ooty through one of the routes mentioned above.
It definitely is an exciting trip from Bangalore to Ooty by car. Though I travel to Ooty from Bangalore very often, I enjoy my car ride every time I travel to Ooty from Bangalore by car.
